The end of the season track battle came and went, lets see who came out on top.....

Kinja'd!!!

So Saturday morning, its 8am. My friend texts me (mind you he's 2 feet away in the other room) to wake up so he can go wash his car. I promptly tell him to piss off and I throw my phone on the floor so I can sleep for 30 more minutes.

A few more of my friends roll up later to convoy down to the track. Besides my car, we had a 04 crown vic sport, a 87 grand national, a 95 marquis and an 85 crown vic tudor. After everything was cleaned (and by cleaned I mean "Its 45 fucking degrees out and I cant feel my hands lets just go), we left for the track about 20 minutes behind schedule.

We got there around 9:50 and saw some other members rolling in. Tech SUCKED, the line was 20+ cars long already. So I waited in line for about 20 minutes until I finally get up there and made the mistake of not lying to the tech guy and telling him I had a blower. For those of you that don't drag race, NHRA rules say if you have a factory blower you are fine. If you have an aftermarket blower, you need a fire jacket, which I didn't have. I immediately drove 300 feet to where we were parked, grabbed a friends fire jacket, drove back to tech, and said "got it!" and passed. Never picked it up after that. Next year if they somehow find out I have a blower I'll say its factory, shouldn't be hard since it says Ford SVT on it.

Kinja'd!!!

We also had a bit of a grudge match going on between my good friend with his Trilogy supercharged marauder, making 451rwhp / 405rwtq

Kinja'd!!!

and my Eaton supercharged marauder making 436rwhp and 420rwtq

Kinja'd!!!

It was honestly a crapshoot who would win. This is how the odds stacked up

Trilogy car:

More power

3000 stall

Eaton car:

More torque

Better rear tires

Less weight (100+lbs less)

So it was anyone's guess, but I wasn't giving up without a fight either way. If that wasn't enough, I had another car I had to battle against that I knew would be a close challenge, the 87 Grand National.

Kinja'd!!!

The car in question has a catless midpipe with a hooker catback, 2800 stall, TA-52 turbo, 60lbs injectors, 93 octane tune, 212 cam, upper and lower control arms, and was rolling on a set of drag radials. This car was already in the 12's on street tires and I knew he was gunning for us.

Tech was done, we went to the lanes, and our class was called. I believe I was one of the first ones up, possibly the first. It was me against another trilogy marauder making, I believe around 420rwhp and 395rwtq. This was going to be a good one!

In the left lane, we have the eaton powered marauder

Kinja'd!!!

and in the right lane, the trilogy powered marauder

Kinja'd!!!

I had good luck with these tires at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , so I figured even with the cold I should be fine. I warmed them up good and got ready. At this point, I can always feel my heart beating, and I'm thinking "don't fuck up, don't fuck up".

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

Roll up to the line, built up the RPM's around 1000 just to get the car to lurch forward a little

Kinja'd!!!

The lights drop, and its GO TIME

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

My nitto 555's spun for a second then bit hard and I took off. My friend over in the right lane blew his nitto 420's apart on the line and went no where.

Kinja'd!!!

I knew this was going to be a good run, I knew my best at MIR was a 12.4 and I figured this would be a 12.3 or maybe a 12.2

Kinja'd!!!

HOLY SHIT! I'm knocking on 11's in a 4490lbs sedan on street tires! At this point I had to shoot for 11's. I gutted my trunk (dropping 100lbs, scale verified), aired up my front tires to 50psi (rears were at 18) and let the car get nice and cold.

What did the other trilogy marauder run?

13.9 @ 105

Kinja'd!!!

Lets check in with the rest of the gang.

Up next was my friends 04 Vic LX Sport. This car has nothing more than a 80mm MAF (off my car), a 87 tune, and a limited slip 3.27 rear (stock is 3.27 open) rolling on 245/55's all around. He went up against the 87 grand national. This was going to be a lop sided race

Kinja'd!!!

This was actually the crown vic drivers first time ever on the track. I gave him a crash course on what to do, and I told him don't bother doing a burnout since with 245 tires, and a limited slip, his car wouldn't spin.

Kinja'd!!!

And off they go

Kinja'd!!!

One thing I always love about the base spring rate panther suspensions is they look like they launch so hard, when in reality this car cut like a 2.2 60'. But it looks cool!

Kinja'd!!!

The grand national ran a 12.88 @ 104mph. I believe he left at around 4psi

Kinja'd!!!

The vic ran a 15.62 @ 90.27. I figured this could be improved because the other LX sport who was in attendance ran a 15.7 bone stock. The 90mph trap speed told me this car had more in it, so we made some changes later.

Kinja'd!!!

Next up it was the battle of the box panthers. I don't know a whole ton about these cars because they came from the box body realm of the panther society, but the white vic has an explorer engine with the factory GT40 upper/lower, GT40P heads and a T-bird cam, as well as a shift kit in the AOD. The town car I think was mostly stock judging by the times he ran.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

That box vic surprised a lot of us. For the record, most stock SEFI box panthers run low 17's.

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah he's not doing a 17

The box vic started off with a 15.5 @ 88mph, very nice!

Kinja'd!!!

The town car followed up with a 19.2 @ 76

Kinja'd!!!

Next round, we have my friends 450rwhp trilogy marauder, vs a bolt on 04 P71. This car dynoed in at 277rwhp and it was his first time hitting the track with this setup.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Lined up

Kinja'd!!!

Goooooooo!

Kinja'd!!!

They both took off, with the marauder fighting for traction. On those 420 nittos he had ZERO grip the entire day.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The vic pulled off a 14.5 @ 94mph, a full second faster than his best bone stock time. Nicely done!

Kinja'd!!!

The marauder ran a 15.7 @ 107mph. To quote Mortal Kombat "Humiliating Defeat!"

Kinja'd!!!

Next up we have a white 2000 P71 which was mostly stock except for a 99 P71 PCM swap.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

18.7 @ 75mph? Le ouch

Kinja'd!!!

Next up, another 2000 P71, this car is stock except for some weld in flowmasters. For those of you that don't know, 2000 was the last year that panthers had the "NPI" heads and intake, this car was good for 210hp in stock form. Most NPI panthers run mid to low 16's.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

A 15.6 at 86mph? What the hell!? I don't like to throw around the LS1 fanboy favorite line here but, I think this car is a "factory freak". He just ran the same time as your average 2004+ P71, which makes 250hp, and this was with a big sub box in the trunk!

Kinja'd!!!

Next up we had the bolt on 2004 LX Sport, this car made 257rwhp on a 87 tune. He runs his 93 tune for the track.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

First run out was a 14.6 @ 93mph

Kinja'd!!!

I believe at this point, we all got our runs in. So it was back to cool off time. Let me show off the cars. Some of these pics may be at the lanes and some in the pits, but who cares I'll tell this story how I want to dammit!

2003 300B Trilogy Marauder

Kinja'd!!!

87 Grand National

Kinja'd!!!

2004 Crown Vic LX Sport

Kinja'd!!!

1986 LTD Crown Victoria

Kinja'd!!!

2000 Crown Victoria P71

Kinja'd!!!

2004 Crown Victoria LX Sport

Kinja'd!!!

1985 LTD Crown Victoria Tudor, the owner bought this car for like 500 bucks with 50k+ miles on it. Its in fantastic shape for the age

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Okay, back to the racing!

Up first we have the shiny trilogy marauder

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

He peddled the car to a 12.6 @ 109mph (the mustang snapped his rear)

Kinja'd!!!

Now we have the third battle of the day, the two bolt on 04's had to fight it out. Both of these cars have similar mods and in theory similar power.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

VERY close race. The sport ran a 14.787 @ 93mph and the P71 ran a 14.783 @ 95mph

Kinja'd!!!

Next up is the white 00 P71

Kinja'd!!!

a 15.8 @ 85mph, thats much better

Kinja'd!!!

Next up we have the box vic vs the red 00 P71

Kinja'd!!!

Another very close race! 15.59 @ 87mph for the P71 and 15.58 @ 88mph for the box vic

Kinja'd!!!

Next we have the box town car against a lightning. I think the lightning might take this

Kinja'd!!!

18.03 @ 77mph

Kinja'd!!!

Up next we have the mostly stock 04 sport again. We bumped the front tire pressure up to 44psi (max) and took everything out of the trunk

Kinja'd!!!

Not sure why but I don't see a pic of his time in here, this run was a 15.7 @92mph due to driver error. He didn't know that deep staging was allowed and went to back up when the lights dropped so he had to slam it in D and take off. That was probably partly my fault for not telling him about deep staging in our crash course.

Now we have the grand national against the not shiny engine trilogy marauder. The shiny car has projector headlights and black chrome rims, this one looks stock, now you can tell them apart.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It looks like the GN fell asleep at the light

Kinja'd!!!

The marauder ran a 13.1 @ 109mph (which is like a mid 12 trap speed) and the GN ran a 12.6 @ 105mph

Kinja'd!!!

Oh look, I found myself up at the line again. This time I'm in the right lane which is apparently better

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Up against a 5th gen camaro SS on 20's.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK no grip!!!!! I spun THROUGH first gear, and half way into second gear. I didn't have enough to reel the ugly 5th gen back in.

The 5th gen ran a 12.7 @ 111mph and I did a 12.9 @ 111mph. I know damn well I could of had this guy if I hooked! It kills me to lose to a 5th gen mullet mobile over my own driver stupidity. Sorry car!

Kinja'd!!!

Back to the pits again, cooling off

Kinja'd!!!

Here we go again, trilogy car vs a sweet GTO

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Holy sweet jesus christ, look at that goat launch!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

That thing can MOVE!

Kinja'd!!!

The marauder pulled his best traction limited run of the day, a 13.0 @ 107mph

Kinja'd!!!

Here I go again, this time I only built the rpm's up to about 1500 instead of 2000 like the last run. Stupid me I ended up in the right lane again

Kinja'd!!!

I lined up with a... OH COME ON! Wheres that damn box town car, screw this

Kinja'd!!!

We both take off, I start spinning again. I let off the gas then stabbed it to the floor again. The car slipped just a bit then it hooked and took off. I was actually just barely ahead of the GT500 up until the 330' mark

Kinja'd!!!

We got to the 1/8th mile and he started to pull ahead. After that NO NO NO NO NO NO NO DAMMIT!

Kinja'd!!!

He ran an 11.8 at freaking 132mph, I ran a 12.48 @ 112mph. Wow did he make me feel slow right there, when he caught grip he ripped down the track like a god damn freight train!

So my runs were done, my best was a 12.1 because the track prep absolutely sucked ass.

Up next was the mostly stock 04 sport again, back for one last shot at glory

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The sport ran a 15.1 @ 92mph, which is a fantastic time for what is essentially a tune only car rolling on bigger wheels. I told him if he had his 93 tune he could have probably cracked a 14.9.

Next up the red 00 P71 goes for one last shot

Kinja'd!!!

15.8 @ 85mph

Kinja'd!!!

Now we have the bolt on 04 sport

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

14.7 @ 92mph

The white box takes off for one more shot

Kinja'd!!!

He pulled a 15.4 @ 88mph, well done!

Kinja'd!!!

Now we have the shiny trilogy car up for one last shot to try and beat me.

Kinja'd!!!

Those damn tires wouldn't hook again! 13.0 @ 108mph

Kinja'd!!!

The white P71 went up again

Kinja'd!!!

This I have zero explanation for

Kinja'd!!!

The box town car is back, where were you when I lost to that GT500!

Kinja'd!!!

This has to be the only time in history that this has ever happened. The lights dropped, that town car slowly roared off the line and....

Kinja'd!!!

what the hell?

Kinja'd!!!

That evo owner was probably crying. The town car ran a 17.3 @ 77mph

Kinja'd!!!

hahahaha

Kinja'd!!!

The blue 04 P71 goes for his last run

Kinja'd!!!

15.0 @ 94mph, boo!

Kinja'd!!!

This race we set up in the staging lanes. My friend with the grand national was going up against a turbo B18 EG civic hatchback on like 195 sized street tires. The owner told us he was running 12.8's all day due to no traction so we figured this would be a close race

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I actually only saw the tail end of this. I was expecting the GN to win to be honest, but I forgot to ask the honda owner about one important factor.. His trap speeds

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I turned around JUST in time to see the civic take the fuck off. I look at the board and HO-LY SHIT

Kinja'd!!!

12.8 @ 121mph! That car on slicks would be in the low 11's!

The GN pulled off a 12.6 @ 106mph

Kinja'd!!!

So that ended our track meet. Next year we'll be back in april because like I said, the battle may be over but the war wages on. As it stands, I had the fastest pass in the history of our E town meets with my 12.1 @ 112.27, .5 seconds faster than the second closest run. I will be back next year with more power, and a set of drag radials to claim my spot in the 11's group on a stock long block. I also have to keep the shiny trilogy car off my ass in the process!

Some people went home, some of us went to an ihop up the road and hung out for a couple of hours. Great way to end the season.

I think it just does under 15 some seconds stock. So it isn't exactly fast.

Plus, studying is for those who didn't learn the material in class!

Congrats on the record, and nice write-up. It would be awesome if you did a little crash course on what to do at a drag strip post. I've done road course track days, but if I showed up at a drag strip I wouldn't have a clue how to do it right. I know there's rules and a fair bit of unwritten etiquette.

Lol, I'll have to grab a truck too. The Jeep Commander we have is the wimpy V6, not capable of towing more than 3500 pounds.

Maybe in 15 years when I have the car running perfect and I'm not afraid of 450 miles.
